The Big Give 2021

From the 8th -15th June, Renaissance Foundation will participate in the Champions for Children match-funding campaign, allied with The Big Give. During this week, every £1 donated will be matched by The Childhood Trust and The Rumi Foundation up to £50,000. This could mean £100,000 is raised during one week for the charity.  Will you show your support and stand up for children by donating?

What is the Big Give?

The Big Give is a match funding platform that brings charities, philanthropists and the public together to multiply their impact. Children and young people have been profoundly impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. This campaign is designed to support charities through the longer-term impacts of Coronavirus pandemic and ensure continued support for vulnerable children and young people in London.

During the week, we will be fundraising for donations to continue our work into next year. We will also be holding an inspirational podcast recording with former National Security Advisor and Speechwriter to President Obama, Ben Rhodes. This event is open to all our young people and supporters and is totally free to sign up. You can find out more here.

Why is Renaissance Foundation participating?

At Renaissance Foundation we support young patients and young carers. These two already overlooked groups are most strongly feeling the adverse effects of the pandemic on young people. These two groups face either mounting fears over their personal treatment and physical health or that of the family members they are young carers for. With the suspension of The Care Act bringing a reduction in social services, a loss of support networks and school closures, our young people are battling intense feelings of anxiety, isolation and fear for their futures. This is a long road for our young people and we need to be there for them, every step of the way.

What will we do with the funds raised?

Over the past year we have seen an overwhelming increase in the number of young people asking for help. Our response has evolved in collaboration with young people and is entirely based on their reported needs. We are:

Helping young people with the emotional strain by:

→   Conducting 1:1 support calls with our dedicated youth team for young people and families to seek tailored care, help with homework and homeschooling, and working on their resilience so that they can manage challenges independently.

→   Facilitating peer support sessions that provide a safe space for young people and their families to process the emotions and events of the past 12 months. Learning tools that can be used outside of sessions to reduce anxiety and stress.

→   Expanding our 1:1 corporate coaching sessions to meet increased anxiety caused by GCSE and A-Level cancellations and difficulties around job seeking post-lockdown.

Helping young people discover their unique talents and interests through isolation by:

→  Increase and improve our weekly creative workshops in music composing, art, baking, financial literacy, movie making and much more.

→ Providing a space where young people can grow in confidence and explore their full potential whilst cultivating friendships and building their soft skills.

Helping young people remain engaged and motivated

→   Building our inspirational talks with role models that have overcome their own challenges.

→  Raising young people's aspirations and belief that they can overcome their own challenges. Help young people see that they deserve, and can have, a better future if they set goals and remain ambitious.

How can you help?

This is a crucial moment for Renaissance Foundation. Young patients and young carers need our support now more than ever, yet with funding cuts and cancelled events we may struggle to keep our doors open. Between the 8th and 15th of June, every pound donated will be matched by The Childhood Trust and the Rumi Foundation. This is a unique opportunity to double your impact, so donate today and transform the life of a vulnerable young person.
